Solar Rebates: How to Claim Your Discount

The "Solar Rebate" is actually a federal government incentive called STCs. Understanding how it works can save you over $3,000 on your installation.

What are STCs?

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are an electronic form of currency created by the Renewable Energy Target. When you install solar, you are "creating" these certificates based on how much renewable energy your system will generate over the next decade.

The Golden Rule

You don't have to sell these yourself. We calculate the value and apply it as an **instant discount** on your quote. You only pay the "net" amount.

State-Specific Incentives

Queensland (QLD)

While there isn't a direct "cash" rebate like VIC, QLD homeowners benefit from some of the highest feed-in tariffs in the country and specific interest-free loans for batteries.

New South Wales (NSW)

The "Solar for Low Income Households" program can help eligible residents swap their energy rebate for a free 3kW solar system.

Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Comparison

Retailer Standard FiT Premium FiT
Origin Energy 5.0c / kWh 12.0c / kWh*
AGL 7.0c / kWh 15.0c / kWh*
EnergyAustralia 6.6c / kWh 10.0c / kWh*

*Premium rates often require signing up for specific VPP or Solar plans.

How much can you claim?

The STC value drops every year on January 1st. Lock in your current rate before it decreases.
